Banana & Chocolate Chip Baked Doughnuts – Soft, light and airy. Delicious banana and chocolate doughnuts, with an added Nutella topping!
Say hello to my new favourite doughnut recipe! I always seem to post doughnut recipes with a theme or in someway related to Nutella – probably says something about my love for themed bakes and chocolate spread, but hey ho there’s definitely no denying my love for all doughnuts! Baked doughnuts are so versatile, you can pretty much add what you like, flavour them to your tastes, and they will always be super delicious.
Unlike the traditional doughnuts these are made without frying them in oil which totally makes them healthier right? Plus, these doughnuts have real banana and healthy natural yoghurt in them – in my world that 100% means they’re good for me! 😉
These baked doughnuts are easy to make and the banana flavour really comes through in perfect partnership with the chocolate chips – so light, airy and fluffy they are my new favourite recipe! They really don’t take long to bake as well, under 10 minutes in the oven and you’ll have fresh banana doughnuts to enjoy – what could be better?
When I was thinking about what to top the doughnuts with only one thing came to mind – Nutella. With Valentines coming up Nutella + doughnuts are the best combo to bake with for someone special. I did really want to make heart shaped doughnuts but sadly my doughnut pan hasn’t arrived from America – why oh why do they not sell them in the UK? …anyhow I made delicious classic round doughnuts instead and they were awesome!
125g plain flour
1tsp baking powder
70g light brown sugar
50g chocolate chips
1 large egg
60g melted butter
1 medium banana, mashed
30ml natural yoghurt
200g Nutella (for topping)
Heart Sprinkles (for topping)
1 – Preheat the oven to 160C (fan). Grease a doughnut pan.
2 – Mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder & chocolate chips.
3 – In another bowel mix together the egg, mashed banana, yoghurt and melted butter – mix well.
4 – Add the banana mix to the flour mix and stir well until fully combined. Fill a piping bag with the doughnut batter and pipe into the doughnut pan mould – 3/4 full. Bake for 10 minutes or until they just start to colour golden brown around the edges.
5 – Leave to cool fully. Warm the Nutella in the microwave for 30 seconds until runny. Dip each doughnut into the Nutella and sprinkle with hearts.
