Honey and Orange Scones
Honey and Orange Scones: deliciously soft scones flavoured with a rich honey and citrusy orange flavour! 🍊
Hello bakers! This week on Wednesday it was World Bee Day 🐝 and what’s a sweeter way to celebrate than baking delicious scones. I recently found Billingtons new Dark and Rich Honey in the shops and I’ve been looking for something to bake to try it out! I love the flavour of honey but I find it hard to retain that great flavour when baking. Until now that is. Just the smell of Billingtons honey that’s made especially for baking is incredible!!! Wait until you taste it in scones … oh my goodness it’s so good!
This wasn’t a gift and definitely isn’t an advertisement I’m just giving my opinion and it’s that this new Dark and Rich Honey is delicious. As soon as you smell the freshly baked scones the honey and orange flavours are too tempting not to eat one fresh from the oven! The fresh orange zest adds a lovely citrus flavour to the scones that really compliments the honey so so well!!
I think I’m a little in love with making scones… I’ve made Strawberry Scones that were scrummy and now these Honey 🍯 & Orange Scones are equally amazing!! One of the best things about scones is that everyone loves them, total crowd pleasers. We may not be able to spend time with our loved ones right now but we can spread the baking love and joy! Scones can be ready in less than 30 minutes, taking only 8 minutes to bake! Yummmmmmy!
A top tip when making scones is to handle them as little as possible and mix only to combine the ingredients. This recipe for scones will make 8 smaller scones or you can make about 4 larger ones! Either way you’ll have something super tasty to eat once baked!!
Go on, celebrate the bees and all the yummy honey they make. Scones are super delicious and I think you’ll love this this recipe for Honey & Orange Scones 💛
- 225g self raising flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 40g unsalted butter, cubed (cold)
- 60ml Billingtons Dark and Rich Honey
- 115ml milk
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- Zest of 1 orange
For the topping:
- 50g icing sugar
- 1tsp Billingtons Dark and Rich Honey
- 1tsp water
1 – Preheat the oven to 220c fan and line a large baking sheet with baking paper.
2 – In a glass bowl mix the flour and baking powder together. Add in the cold cubed butter and cinnamon. Mix between your fingertips until you have a breadcrumb like consistency. Add in the orange zest.
3 – In a separate bowl mix the honey and milk together.
4 – Slowly add the milk mixture to the dry ingredients. You won’t need all the milk mixture but save it for later. You need just enough to bring all the dry ingredients together, it will be sticky.
5 – Turn the dough out onto a well floured surface. Knead a little just to bind it all together and press down into a circular shape. Cut into 8 triangles and place onto the baking sheet.
6 – Brush the scones with the leftover milk mixture and bake for 8 minutes.
7 – Allow to cool once baked. Mix the icing sugar with the honey and water and drizzle over the scones. Enjoy!!
